Seriously Annoyed
During my dive into my to-be-read pile, I picked up a romance that I found out was the first in a trilogy. The first one was good, so I bought the other two. **sigh** Bad move. The second book was a complete waste of paper. And at the end of the third book… remember it’s a romance… the hero dies. **blinking eyes in shock** WHAT?!?! At the end of a “romance” the hero dies?!?! I don’t think so.
Definitely the last time I read that author, and it’ll make me think really hard about picking up anything by that publisher.
I totally quit reading TOR’s romances for this same reason… I couldn’t trust them to deliver a good story within the expectations of the genre.
On the other hand, I’ll pick up a Berkley Sensation by an author totally unknown to me, which is something I won’t do with any other publisher, because Berkley Sensation consistently delivers a good read. Whoever is editing the Berkley Sensations that have come out in the last year, I want that person as my editor… they know how to edit!! :-)
I used to be the same way with Dorchester’s LoveSpell line. If I was looking for a new author to read, I’d pick up a LoveSpell… but no more. I don’t know who’s editing them now, but they suck, and LoveSpell has completely lost me as a reader.
So, I’m seriously annoyed at that author and publisher, annoyed to the point that I’m giving the books away… which is something I almost never do. A waste of paper and money. **grumble, grumble**
