Crucial Steps Class

Posted in

I taught “Crucial Steps to Better Fiction Writing” all day Saturday at Kishwaukee College, and it went really well. I had a good time and my students seemed to have a good time, too. Of course, I apologized for the kinks in the class, being the first time I gave it, but they were forgiving, and they all seemed to get something out of the class, which is why I did it. And, like always, I learned tons getting ready for it, so it was definitely worth my while. I give it twice more, once at Elgin CC and then at Joliet CC.

And, good, bad, or otherwise, the class got me fired up about my writing again. I just wish I had the time and energy to do something with it. The bad part of it was I used one book too many times as an example and now those characters are starting to stir and make their presence known. The unfortunate part is this book is (at the very least) the 3rd one on my list, so the chances of me getting to it any time soon are slim to none… so I’m whispering softly to them “go back to sleep, go back to sleep", ‘cause the last thing I need is more characters babbling at me.

I had a grand time teaching the class, but the week of late nights caught up with me. I slept all day Sunday, and I’m really dragging today. But the preparation for the class is done, so the next two times will be much easier.
