New Story Progressing
I'm writing on a new story, one that hadn't hit the radar before the end of September. Well, that's not exactly true. The first scene of the story came to me the end of April, along with a title "Victory By Seduction", but I didn't write the first words until the end of September.
Last night I wrote almost 2,000 more words to it, which puts the total up to about 8,500 words, plus about that many words in backstory and plot outlines.
I've been trying to figure out why I'm writing this story rather than all the ones I'm supposed to be writing, the ones that make sense career-wise for me to be writing... like the 2nd book in the series of the book that sitting in the agent's desk.
The only thing I can come up with is my need for escape. Jara's story is escape for me, and everything else in my life is work. And I'm already working 12-14 hour days on everything else that needs to be done, so I really don't have the energy for more work. So I write Jara to escape from my world into hers.
The really interesting thing is that, so far, every word of Jara's rough draft has been written long-hand. Again, I pondered the 'why' of that and came up with a fairly obvious answer. After days like yesterday, where I sat down at my keyboard at 8am and got up from it at 9pm, the last thing I want to do is type anything more. So writing long-hand is a relief. The only annoyance is that I'll have to type it all in at some point and get everything sorted out into accessible reference sections.
But for right now. Writing it long-hand seems to be working good. I'm writing, and enjoying it... and that's what really counts.
